1: Self portrait by Pablo Picasso.
2: Houses at l'estaque by Braque.
3: Fruit on Table cloth by Braque.

Critique:
Describe: the self portrait of picasso has a big nose ande oval brown eyes. there are a lot of browns and oranges in the painting. the face shape is sharp and has "points." the overall painting has straight, thick lines.
analyze: It is cubist because it isn't a realistic painting of picasso, and you can interperet the way he viewed himself as he painted.
Interpretation: picasso painted himself the way he viewed himself. He looks cartoonish, which i think expresses a deeper opinion of himself that he projected in his self portrait. His head also looks small compared to his large, broad shoulders, maybe suggesting a small opinion of himself. Perhaps he feels he is small and worthless.
Judgment: I like this painting. One negative is its almost cartoonish look, and the broad lines; the face is not detailed like a photograph, but i like the way picasso portrayed himself. I like the big eyes, and the orange backround.

Describe: There are two main colors: green and orange. The houses are very geometrical, and they almost stack up. The trees are woven into the backround and such, but have softer, rounder branches compared to the very pointed houses. It almost looksw like a wind is blowing by the way the trees are bent.
Analyze: Obvious elements of cubism; the houses are very geometric, and the pianting overall is very plain. It is not a detailed painting of houses, just orange and green shapes, and the orange and green is dull.
Interpretation: I'm not too sure about this painting's meaning. Perhaps a deeper meaning is present in the painting with the stable houses but shifty trees; maybe Braque just wanted to paint his version of a landscape. I personally like the deeper meaning better. The shadows against the orange also suggest something darker.
Judgement: I enjoy this painting. The houses are calm, but the trees look troubled. The houses are also sturdy and secure, while the trees are thin and bending. It invokes a feeling of a facade of strength, but a storm is raging underneath. If you pay attention you see the storm thats rustling the trees, even though the houses look unaffected. Not everything is what it seems.

Describe: There are various fruits on a table; the colors are dull, with a dark backround. Mainly greens and browns; the still life is different than normal still lifes in that it is dark. It contains apples, pears, a peach and some grapes. I don't see the average colorful fruit that are generally in a still life. The fruit looks a bit distorted.
Analyze: I think this looks cubist because of the way the table cloth looks, and the block shapes in the background. Again, it can be interpreted in any way. Cubists weren't held back by art rules.
Interpretation: I find the fruits to be dark and rotten, maybe showing a view of nature or the way Braque was feeling at the time of the painting. It isn't bad. In fact, its different in a good way.
Judgement: I like this still life because it's different than your average still life. I like the color scheme and warped table cloth, that doesn't look like it has a table to sit on.

The next planet the prince visited was home to only one person. She looked a little odd. Not like the men on the other planets he had visited. She had bright hair, and odd eyes. The Petit Prince looked at her curiously.

“Hello,” said the petit prince.

“Hi,” responded the girl.

“You look odd. Different from all the others I’ve seen on my travels. Why?”

“Ah. Because I am different.”

“Why?” the Petit Prince asked again, reluctant to let the question go. “Your hair is so bright.”

“I know. And I am afraid that I will never know its true color again. You see, I’ve changed it so many times that I have forgotten what color it truly is.”

“But why would you change something that you were born with? You were born that way on purpose. Nature does not intend for you to change such things.”

“Something I learned too late, young prince.”

“Wait. What have you learned? Why do you look different?” asked the Petit Prince again.

“I was not happy with myself. I wanted to change my appearance, but each time I was still not happy. I continued to change my hair, my eyes, my body, everything. And now I have forgotten what I looked like in the first place. Something I greatly regret.”

“Oh. Don’t you have any photos here? Photos of how you looked before?”

“No. My planet is barren. We have nothing here.”“So what will you do?”

“About what?”
“Your appearance. If you are not happy, and you cannot remember what you looked like in the first place, what will you do?”

“I will be stuck like this. This is my consequence for trying to become something I am not. Take something from this visit, little prince. Be happy with yourself, and do not try to change for others. You will lose sight of yourself, and may not come back.”

“I am happy. And I will try to remember. Thank you.”

As the Petit Prince left to go, he turned to the girl. She was beautiful, though odd.
